Taking Back Your Power, One Day At A Time

I’m a workaholic, with two major burnout experiences in my working life. In the second one, my tendency to put “the job” over and above anything else in my life (including myself) was put to good use by the company, and long hours and working weekends were not uncommon. Balance in my life was a dream. My back went out shortly before I left, and my hair began falling out not long after. I eventually found out I had developed an autoimmune disease.
In creating my own business, I knew I had to do things differently. My tendency is that if there’s work to be done, I’ll do it, but with creating a business the work is endless. I felt up against a wall, knowing I couldn’t be in the same way, but not seeing the way forward.
I began to realize that I had the tools and the knowledge but I needed to apply them in a new way to my situation. Nearly two decades of exploration in areas of personal growth, spiritual development, and holistic health, as well as an MA in Consciousness Studies and my book on the process of transformation, all came together to provide the knowledge, tools and skills I needed to begin the work of shifting who I am in relation to myself and my work.
As a coach, many clients come to me wanting more balance in their lives, whether they are working for someone else or are entrepreneurs. I have helped them assess where they are out of balance and what they would like to change, and then guided them to identify the steps to get them there. When we are seeking to make a change, particularly one that requires us to respond in ways beyond how we currently are able to, we need new approaches, a commitment to the process, inspiration, and a supportive structure to carry us through the difficulties we inevitably face when we make major shifts. You provide the commitment; my program provides the rest.
So many women have been raised to care for others before caring for themselves, and then live this out in their lives, putting family, job, friends, social commitments, and the community all before themselves. Yet being burned out, exhausted, or frazzled are not the best ways to really serve others; truly caring for others begins with caring for ourselves. When we are grounded and centered in our own feminine being, we know better how to serve others, and our actions become more focused and effective. In a world that sometimes seems to be spinning faster and faster out of control, this is what we need—women refusing to bow to the pressures put on us and instead making sure we connect with our own deeper intuitive knowing. Then we can act in the steadfast, even fierce, manner that will create the changes we know need to be made to truly serve others.
